JUNEAU - The state Senate has passed legislation restoring gun rights for some nonviolent felons. The bill now goes to the governor.
Current state law allows for nonviolent felons' gun rights to be partially restored if certain conditions are met. That partial restoration still bars handgun purchases and limits carrying concealed weapons. A U.S. Supreme Court decision has held that if felons' rights are to be restored, they're to be restored fully, or not at all.
The bill was sponsored by the House Judiciary Committee.
