Police closed down the south portion of Thane Road today after a man with a gun threatened to kill himself.
"We are discouraging anyone from going down to that area due to curiosity or anything else," said police Capt. Tom Porter. "Officers will stop anyone they find trying to enter that area."
Police were called about 10:10 a.m. with news that the man was threatening suicide, Porter said. Traffic into the area was stopped and residents nearby were told to leave or stay inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows.
The man surrendered to officers around 3:00 pm. He was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for examination. At this time no charges have been filed.
