Former Juneau resident Glen Stuart Shepard, 52, died April 19, 2002, at home in McMinnville, Ore., of an aneurysm.
He was born June 26, 1949, to Franklin Benton Shepard and Margaret Mary Rix Shepard and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1967. He moved to McMinnville, Ore., and enrolled at Linfield College. He received a bachelor of arts degree in biology, a master's degree in education and completed his teaching credentials. He married Virginia Osborn on May 26, 1973, in McMinnville. They later divorced. Years later he took classes in computer science.
He worked for the Parks and Recreation Department and as a lifeguard for the McMinnville swimming pool. He held a variety of jobs, such as a diving instructor, swimming instructor and gymnastics instructor. He was a past master and a member of the Masonic Lodge in McMinnville.
His hobbies included gardening and playing musical instruments. His family said he was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. They said he took special care of his animals and enjoyed looking after them.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1987.
He is survived by mother Margaret Shepard, Aurora, Colo.; son Micah Shepard, McMinnville, Ore.; sister Jill Noble, San Diego; and brother Anthony Shepard, Gig Harbor, Wash.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2002, at Macy and Son in McMinnville, Ore.
