Red Cross offers water safety instruction

The American Red Cross and city of Juneau are offering water safety instructor classes from May 10 to June 2.

A mandatory pre-course session is at 6:15 p.m., April 28 at Augustus Brown Pool. Participants must be 16 years of age before the end of the course and pass a pre-course skills test and have a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training certification.

A lifeguard course will run April 29-May 1. Participants must be 17 years of age by the completion of the course, pass pre-course written and skills tests and have a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training or American Red Cross Health and Safety Services Instructor certificate.

The pre-course test is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 23, at Augustus Brown pool.

City seeks comment on DZ trail system plan

The city of Juneau Parks and Recreation Deptartment will take public comment on the DZ Trail System Master Plan through April 26.

The public is welcome to view the proposed trails on the web at www.juneau.org/parksrec or to pick up a plan map at City Hall.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will review public comments at 6 p.m., May 3, at City Hall. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation at 586-5226.
