In response to Mr. Schofield's letter about moving the Juneau airport somewhere else (April 12), if I recall, we live in a valley surrounded by 2,500- to 3,500-feet-tall mountains. The only place large enough and flat enough to support an airport and runway of that size or larger is the ice cap!

The good news is we wouldn't have to worry about birds or any other wildlife, for that matter. Plus, it wouldn't disturb the public with the noise factor. (Although, there are scientists that live up there year round that might have something to say about it.) Come on, get real.
