Theft hurts

Posted: Thursday, April 18, 2002

I would like to take this opportunity to warn all the Juneau merchants that the light-fingered thieves are out stealing again.

I belong to the Juneau Artists' Gallery in the Senate Building. We were in the process of moving into our new location downstairs on April 13. Some time during the day, someone came in and took a container of my beadwork that I had removed from my cabinet earlier in the morning. I restocked most of my cabinet that afternoon and left the remainder until Sunday, April 14. I then started finding earrings that had no necklaces and after a quick inventory, realized that a goodly portion of my work was missing.

I keep a color portfolio of the major pieces I have made so I have a good record of what is missing. What makes me heartsick is that my pieces are one-of-a-kind and represent about half of my winter production in hours. The total loss comes to over $1,600, which is devastating to me. I just hope that everyone will keep their eyes open this summer and no one else loses any of their merchandise.
