Miller homers as Juneau upends POW

The Juneau-Douglas junior varsity softball team completed an impressive sweep of the Prince of Wales varsity with two wins Sunday.

The Crimson Bears improved to 4-0 with a 18-4 win in the first game and a 15-2 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, third baseman Nicole Fenumiai laced two triples and a double, drove in two runs and scored three times to lead JDHS. Taelyn Coffee went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Joy Ross scored twice and Rachelle Miller had an inside-the-park home run, a double and an RBI.

Carrie Laliberte earned the pitching win by scattering four hits in three innings, striking out five. She also doubled, singled and scored twice.

Trixie Abella pitched three innings of relief in the win.

Bears senior pitcher Katie Damian delivered a strong pitching performance in game two as she fanned five in a two-hit, complete-game win.

Ashliegh Wilwert led the Bears offensively with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Britt Weideman went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a double and an RBI, Sara Manning singled, tripled, scored and drove in a run, Fenumiai scored three times and Laliberte went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
