Tuesday, April 18

• Juneau Adult Hockey Association free introduction to hockey - The Juneau Adult Hockey Association will host a free introduction to hockey clinic on Tuesday, 6 p.m. at Treadwell Arena. Gear and instruction will be provided free of charge. Skates can be rented for $2. Come and try on the geat from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. then see how it work on the ice from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On-ice instruction will include basic skating, stick and puck handling, rules of the game and a scrimmage game. • Juneau-Douglas High School softball - The two-time defending state champion Crimson Bears make their home debut against Colony at Melvin Park for a pair of games.

Sunday, April 23

• Juneau Skating Club recital - The Juneau Skating Club will hold "A Sunday Matinee" at 3 p.m. at Treadwell Arena. The season-ending recital will feature Juneau's youth figure skaters. All students are invited to participate. There are 17 numbers planned, including solos from skaters and those who won medals in the JSC's first skating competition. Tuesday, April 25

• Juneau-Douglas Ice Association charity game - Two of the Juneau Adult Hockey Association's top teams take to the Treadwell Arena ice at 6 p.m. for a game benefitting the Juneau-Douglas Ice Association. The JDIA is the local governing body for youth hockey. The adult teams are preparing for a tournament starting April 28.

• Juneau Soccer Club tryout schedule - Juneau youth interested in trying out for a Juneau Soccer Club competitive team should participate in the appropriate age group tryout. All JSC team tryouts will be held at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

• Capital City Soccer League schedule - The Capital City Soccer League will hold its open soccer schedule on Sundays at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Wednesday, May 24 and May 31, at Adair-Kennedy from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Info: CCSL, 523-9196.

• Juneau Youth Football League volunteers needed - The Juneau Youth Football League is looking for volunteers to fill coaching and board vacancies. If you are interested in working with some of Juneau's young athletes or help shape youth football in Juneau, this would be the position for you. • Learn to ice skate - The Juneau Skating Club will be holding group skating lessons for all levels and ages starting this weekend. The six-week session starts Friday, March 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Registration forms are available at Treadwell Arena and online at http://www.juneauskatingclub.org. • Coed Classic Soccer League - The Coed Classic Soccer League is designed for soccer players ages 30 and older who wish to continue their glory days of playing in an exclusively non-competitive but fun and enjoyable environment. Games take place every Sunday at the Floyd Dryden Middle School gym from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is a $50 fee to join up for the season. Info: Moctar Diouf, 586-3256.

• Community Schools Open Adult Gym time - There will be open adult gym at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School for soccer on Fridays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. For basketball and volleyball, there will be open gym time on Sundays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a $5 fee and players should bring their own soccer balls, basketballs or volleyballs. • JDHS Softball Team spaghetti dinner: The Juneau-Douglas High School softball team will host their annual spaghetti feed dinner and dessert auction on Monday, April 24 at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the ANB Hall. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years old, $23 for a family and $5 for seniors. Tickets are available from the team or at the door. Info: Dave Massey, 321-1909

• Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Tricycles, mats, balls, a Little Tykes climber, building blocks and a kid-sized basketball hoop are available. Info: Myiia Whistler, 586-5226.

• Treadwell Arena schedule - People can sign up for hockey leagues, classes, camps and skating lessons for the fall season. Treadwell Arena can rent private ice to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Info: Treadwell Arena, 586-0410, or on the Web at http://www.juneau.org/parksrec/icerink/.

• Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. • Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Participants must be able to swim crawlstroke and backstroke. Info: Augustus Brown swim pool, 586-5325.

• Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The cost to rent the court is $20 per hour, which must be paid at the time of rental. This is for adult activities only. Info: Juneau Community Schools, 463-1717.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
