I have observed the Alaska Legislature in action for more than 35 years, and I thought that I had seen and heard just about everything with regard to bad behavior on the part of our elected officials. As I watched the Gavel to Gavel program that reported statewide testimonies on the budget hearings, a new level of bad behavior was demonstrated by Sen. Dave Donley.
Perhaps Sen. Donley was very tired or was not feeling well during those hearings, but there is no excuse for such boorish behavior coming from an elected official at such a time. Some of his comments to some of the people who testified were rude, insulting, impolite and inappropriate for any elected official to spew upon their fellow citizens. These people were simply trying to participate in the government process, and they did not deserve to be treated in such a demeaning way.
Being an elected official does not elevate one to the status of deity.
