JUNEAU - The Spring Juneau Community Health Fair is scheduled to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nugget Mall. The Juneau Community Health Fair provides residents with the chance to learn about and participate in their own wellness and health care management by providing quality, interactive health education, health education resources and preventative screenings.
Some of the services provided at a Juneau Community Health Fair include blood pressure; low cost blood test screenings: a chemistry or hematology test panel, thyroid stimulating hormone screening, prostate specific antigen screening, vitamin D hydroxy screening; educational models and displays, interactive learning centers. This makes high quality preventative medical screenings accessible and affordable to many Juneau residents who often do not have access to health services.
Community health fairs are organized by the non-profit organization Alaska Health Fair Inc. Alaska Health Fair Inc. began in 1980, as part of the National Health Screening Council. In 2008, Alaska Health Fair Inc. held 120 health fairs in more than 40 communities statewide and supplied health education materials to another 49 groups and events.
