Northern Keta captures Women's A championship

Northern Keta wrapped up the Juneau Adult Hockey Association Women's Tier A championship on Wednesday with a 1-0 shootout victory.

After three scoreless periods and a scoreless overtime, Rachel Bowman beat Island Pub goaltender Jessica Parks in the shootout's second round for the title.

No one scored in the first round of the shootout.

Jodie Pessolano made 20 saves in the shutout victory while Parks stopped 32 shots.

Northern Keta won the best-of-three series 2-1 after Island Pub captured Game 2 on Tuesday.


Island Pub 4, Doc Water's 2

Island Pub received a hat trick from Dan Teske on Sunday to win the Tier A championship in Game 3 of their best-of-three series.

Tom McKenna added a goal while Dale Erickson, David Anderson, Aaron Jacobs and Blake Galvin scored in the win.

Chip Verrelli stopped 21 shots in the win.

Flip Pryor and Dave Kovach scored Doc Water's goals in the loss.

Tom McKenzie made 20 saves in defeat.


Kensington Goldminers 2, Winter Kings 1

The Kensington Goldminers scored twice in the first period and held on in the Tier B championship game on Sunday.

Doug Woodby and Ian Leary scored for Kensington while Leary and Chris Mertl picked up assists.

Jerry Nankervis turned back 20 of 21 shots in the win.

The Winter Kings' Randy Host scored in the period to get his team back within a goal. Wayne Coleman picked up the assist on Host's goal.

Stephen Morrison made 22 saves for the Winter Kings.


Gold 3, Les Schwab 2

The Gold team battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period to win the Women's B title on Tuesday.

Ebett Calvert and Michelle Kissling scored about three minutes apart midway through the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Elise Augustson then delivered the game-winning goal with 14.6 seconds left when she scored off Ellen Canapary's assist.

Jessie Kovach, Kristin Bartlett and Mary Hausler had assists for the Gold while goaltender Liz Johnson made eight saves.

Les Schwab's Jess Parks scored in the second period and Kara Winegar added a goal early in the third period to put their team up 2-0.

Casey Fudge chipped in two assists and Paige Dunker tallied another assist in the loss while Julie Nielson turned back 10 of 13 shots.


D.K. Mining Co. 3, Yellow 2

D.K. Mining Co. had a goal in each period to topple the Yellow team in the Tier C title game.

Mike Chambers, Val Martinez and Darryl Tseu all scored in the win while Jesse Blackwell, Martinez and Tseu had assists.

Wayne Coleman made 17 saves in the win.

The Yellow's Todd Wimmer and Adrian Slater scored in the loss. David Blaisdell had two assists and Matthew McGuan picked up one assist for the Yellow.


Grey 3, Flying Prunes 0

Gene Cheeseman stopped 13 shots as Grey won the Tier D title last Thursday.

Andrew Parsons, John Hickey and Todd Kollar scored the goals while Bret Connell, Topaz Shyrock, Kent Hart and Parsons added assists.

Flying Prunes goaltender Liam Carnahan made 24 saves.
