ANCHORAGE - The University of Alaska Anchorage has named former legislator and lieutenant governor Fran Ulmer to be its chancellor.
University of Alaska president Mark Hamilton said Ulmer is a skilled manager and tireless advocate.
Hamilton had appointed Ulmer as interim chancellor last year after the position was vacated.
Ulmer says she's excited that the job has become permanent. The UAA campuses include nearly 20,000 full- and part-time students.
Ulmer was mayor of Juneau in the 1980s, served in the state House from 1986 to 1994 and was lieutenant governor from 1994 to 2002.
Her annual salary as chancellor will be $248,000.
