Douglas resident Hans Verner Pedersen, 88, died April 12, 2005.
H.V. or "Hovie" as he was known to many, was born March 20, 1917, in Kettinge, Denmark. He spent his early adult life as a farmer and emigrated with his family in 1959 to Douglas to work as a master carpenter and contractor.
He imbued many private homes throughout the community with his original Danish modern style. He worked on the historical restoration of the Finance Room in the Juneau Capitol Building.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Pedersen of Douglas; three daughters, June Hilton (Gulli Palmason) of Denmark, Ulla Pedersen (Joe Emerson) of Auke Bay, and Annetta (John) Love of New York; and five grandchildren, Evan and Adam Love, Erik Pedersen, and Molly and Tyler Emerson.
A celebration of his life will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 24, at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, 206 N. Franklin St., 99801.
