Panama-to-Alaska package yields three drug arrests

FAIRBANKS - A tip from customs agents in Florida led to the arrest of three Alaskans on drug charges.

According to a criminal complaint, Alaska State Troopers were notified that agents intercepted a Panama-to-Fairbanks package containing more than four pounds of cocaine.

The box was shipped to Immigration Customs Enforcement in Anchorage and driven to Fairbanks, where troopers replaced a portion of the cocaine with fake drugs and installed a device to alert them when the parcel was opened.

Troopers then staked out the intended address and were there when the package arrived.

Police arrested 24-year-old Stacey Steinmuller of Fairbanks, 24-year-old Thomas Walker of Fairbanks and 20-year-old Tyronne Burkhead of North Pole. All were charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.
