... for coming to the party
Thanks to all who attended my 80th birthday party April 3 and made it such a great occasion. The surprises by AARP Alaska, the City Museum and Bruce Weyhrauch's legislative citation were much appreciated and made it a special day. Further thanks to my daughters, Sue Nielsen and Jean Eichman, for a wonderful party and to my granddaughter, Ann Nielsen, for all the beautiful decorations. See you at my 90th!
... for honoring Peter
I would like to express my gratitude to the many people who came to the Peter Barrett Memorials and the generosity of those who donated money toward his fund. It was amazing the way the community came together to honor their friend and celebrate Peter's life. A huge thank you needs to go to so many who helped in the ceremonies and with all of the ongoing details.
I would especially like to thank Jeffra Cough at Eaglecrest Ski Area who was kind enough to let us use the lodge for his memorial and orchestrated a beautiful tribute to Peter's life. I would also like to give a special thank you to Reecia Wilson for all her support and help and for donating the use of the Twisted Fish for the celebration of Peter's life. Others who need to be noted and thanked include: Alaska Litho for donating the programs and especially Rich for his time, Timberwolf for donating the flowers at the boat launch and the beautiful pictures of Peter that were at the memorials, Caribou Crossings for all the time they invested in the set up of the events and the donation of Peter's photos to raise the money for his memorial fund, and Mark Kelley for taking photographs at the memorials and presenting the slide show of Peter.
The money raised was put into the Juneau Community Fund which is a nonprofit organization that will invest the money donated so that his memory can last a lifetime. The charities chosen were a photography scholarship and the Juneau Mountain Rescue; these two donations will be given annually in Peter's name. This year we also hope to build a memorial bench at the North Douglas boat launch in Peter's honor by his birthday in August. Any further contributions can be sent to: Juneau Community Fund, Court Plaza Building, 240 Main St., Suite 600, 99801. Please make checks payable to the Peter Barrett Memorial Fund-ACF (Alaska Community Fund). Thank you.
... to Coeur Alaska and Oceana
It's no accident that Juneau's teams are consistently chosen to represent Alaska at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. We rely on the expertise and financial support of so many individuals and agencies throughout Juneau for our success.
Thanks to Coeur Alaska. Since 1999, Coeur Alaska has provided professional scientific mentoring and financial support for Juneau high school students involved in NOSB. Since 1999, Juneau students have won every NOSB state competition they have attended.
Thanks to Oceana. In their work to protect our ocean resources, Oceana recognizes the importance of education and support for our future ocean scientists. Oceana presents valuable information in the school, as well as provides financial support and mentoring for students on ocean related subjects.
Because of the generous support of Coeur Alaska and Oceana, JDHS students are better able to focus their time and energy in doing good science. Their investment in the lives of so many JDHS students who have participated in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl over the years pays big dividends now and in the future.

... for the support
Juneau Youth Wrestling would like to thank the wonderful, generous people of Juneau for helping to support our organization by buying raffle tickets. With your help, we are able to provide this challenging experience to over 50 Juneau athletes. Your support will help us with travel and equipment purchases, as well as a wrestling day camp in August. This was our most successful raffle ever. We appreciate the community support of our prize donors as well.
The winners of our April 2005 drawing are: Carrie Smith, two Alaska Airline tickets to any west coast destination; Tana Kegler, TEMSCO Helicopter experience for two; Jason Dorn, $350 from Juneau Youth Wrestling; and Scott Robinson, $250 from Debbie White of RE/MAX of Juneau.
If you know a young wrestler who would benefit from our program, have them call 789-8484.
