Nine Alaska runners break marathon 3-hour barrier

ANCHORAGE - Nine Alaska runners broke the three-hour barrier at this year's Boston Marathon.

Veteran Anchorage marathoner Jerry Ross had the top time among Alaskans Monday at 2:36:55, finishing less than a minute ahead of Anchorage South High School wrestling coach Tom Ritchie. Mark Lindberg of Fairbanks was the third Alaska finisher among the men.

On the women's side, Lia Ossiander Slemons of Anchorage finished in 2:59:36. Dorothy Shearn of Anchorage was the second-highest finisher for Alaska woman, followed by April Nelson of Anchorage.

Sixty-seven Alaskans finished the Boston Marathon this year.
