Cancer Society relay registration starts April 24
The third annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Juneau will begin at 4 p.m. July 17 and end at 8 a.m. July 18 at the Dimond Park-Riverbend Elementary School.
Registration will be held between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 24 and May 1 at the Nugget Mall. Register by phone by calling the American Cancer Society at 586-2231.
"The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's version of an athletic relay in which everyone can participate," said Tuula Marquardt, co-chair of the event. "It brings the progress against cancer to the forefront. It's an especially powerful event since many of the relay's participants have personally dealt with cancer - our family, friends and neighbors".
Pat Yearty, who co-chairs the event with Marquardt, agreed.
"The funds raised enable us to continue our investment in the fight against cancer through research, education, advocacy and patient services," he said.
Due to the donations of corporate gold sponsors such as Wells Fargo Bank of Alaska and Premera Blue Cross of Alaska and of silver sponsor True North Federal Credit Union, the money raised by participants goes directly to the American Cancer Society's lifesaving programs. Other sponsors supporting the event are Cancer Connection, Jensen, Yorba & Lott, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Dillon and Findley.
More information about the relay and team registration packets will be available at the Nugget Mall during the Saturday event, and again on May 1. Call 586-2231 or visit the relay Web site, www.alaska.net/~lutchanl, for more information.
