The overall message conveyed in Alaska Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Michael L. Menge's article ("Pebble critics should keep their powder dry," March 31) is that people do not know enough to decide what the "clearer target" is.

The "target" is very clear. It is our land that some people from Canada want to dig a hole in, mix it (the diggings) with various chemicals and dump this mixture nearby to create a dead zone that can never be "renewed." He claims that generating opposition "by appealing to emotions is simply premature." Gut instincts are more times than not the right ones.
