Juneau - The Southeast District of the American Red Cross of Alaska will hold the Fourth Annual Capital City Luau tonight, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall. Returning chef Steve Iha will prepare the meal in authentic Hawaiian luau style.
In addition to plenty of Epicurean delights, the evening will include auctions for desserts and other donated items and activities, music and dancing. The event is 21 and over. Dress is "aloha casual."
According to Michelle Houlihan, executive director of the American Red Cross of Alaska, funds raised will go to sustaining much of the ongoing work that's done in the Southeast District, from CPR and first-aid training, to disaster relief services.
In recognition of everything the American Red Cross does for Juneau and the rest of the state, Mayor Botelho has proclaimed today, the day of the Luau, as Capital City Hawaiian Shirt Day.
Tickets for the luau are $40, $75 for two, or $350 for 10 and a reserved table. They can be purchased at Hearthside Books, at www.alaska.redcross.org, or by calling the Juneau/Southeast Red Cross office at 463-5713.
