FAIRBANKS- A Fairbanks man accused of killing his girlfriend's 19-month-old son pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.
The lawyer for the 26-year-old, Travonti Osbey, said in return for Wednesday's plea prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of the two years he has already spent locked up since his 2008 arrest.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the case was repeatedly delayed as Osbey changed attorneys and a new prosecutor took over the case.
A formal sentencing has been scheduled for August. A bail hearing will take place in two weeks.
Police said Osbey was watching the toddler and his 4-year-old brother in August 2007 when paramedics were called to the home and found the younger child not breathing and with a broken arm. The boy died a few days later.
Osbey told police the little boy fell off a bunk bed. The 4-year-old brother gave police several stories. Once he said the boy fell off a couch, and at another point he said Osbey slammed the child's head into the carpet. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide.
