Thanks for the Yupik science, survival exhibit

Posted: Friday, April 24, 2009

I had the opportunity to preview the upcoming exhibit "The Way We Genuinely Live: Yupik Science and Survival Exhibit," at the Alaska State Museum. I consider it one of the finest exhibits that I have seen at the museum. Objects have been contributed by museums in the United States and around the world. The signs and explanations are concise, clear and informative. There are some interactive programs as well.

"Genuine life," real life, is not just tools and weapons or technology. People rely on knowledge, beliefs, traditions, art and ceremonies for survival. And so, all of these aspects of life were and are important and are included in the exhibit.

A visit to the exhibit can be a valuable learning experience for Juneauites and visitors.

I consider it a "must see" exhibit. Recommended visiting time: at least an hour or two.
