The Juneau Hooptime Girls 8th grade team won the Surf City Slam Tournament last weekend in Santa Cruz, Cal. Hooptime has sent teams to AAU tournaments in the Lower 48 since 2001, and have always been competitive. This year, the girls defeated teams from Chico, Stockton and San Jose with respective scores of 47-27, 34-28, and 56-40. In their third game, nine Hooptime players scored. Gabi Fenumiai and Marissa Brakes scored 8 points, Jonelle Staveland and Emily Winters scored 9 points, and Esra Siddeek had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
