Auke Bay Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students will perform the legend, "How Night Came to Brazil," at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Auke Bay gym. This musical play features Brazilian music and dance, brilliant soccer moves, mysterious magic and even an appearance by the famed "Great Sea Serpent" of Brazil.
"How Night Came to Brazil" is a Brazilian legend rewritten as a musical play by elementary school music teacher Ann Boochever and Scott Miller.
Boochever said the story is a good one. "There was once a granddaughter of the Great Sea Serpent who made the fateful mistake of marrying one of the sons of the earth race known as Man. She became ill because of all the daylight. Near death, she sent a messenger to the Great Sea Serpent for some of his darkness.
"This is a delightful chance for the students and the audience to enjoy an imaginative visit to a land full of mystery and legend," said Boochever.
