George and Jean Rogers and the entire Rogers family wish to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to each and every firefighter of the Capital City Rescue team who responded to the house fire at 1790 Evergreen Ave. in the early hours of April 22. We are also grateful to Mary Lorence, who reported the fire.
The dedication, compassion and expertise of Juneau's firefighters saved neighboring homes and the beautiful forest from the destruction. We thank the Lord for the safety of the firefighters, George and Jean Rogers, Mary Lorence and her dog Olly. Thanks to all the neighbors for their support and loving assistance during this crisis. The family appreciates the countless calls from the community asking what they can do to help return the years of dedication and community service George and Jean Rogers have given to Juneau. A Rogers fire donation fund account has been set up at Alaska Pacific Bank, downtown branch, for donations to help with rebuilding the Rogers' lives.
Please continue to watch the Empire for announcements in the next month for volunteer work parties, donations from contractors, operators of heavy equipment and debris-hauling trucks, to assist with the demolition and removal of the burned structure. The community's help and support are appreciated and the Rogers thank you all for your care and support. Juneau truly is a family community.
