In response to Kathy Dye's article regarding Sen. Stevens' speech to the Alaska Legislature (Empire, April 12), I might or might not fit the senator's definition of "extreme environmentalist" but I think it is clear that extreme countermeasures would not be necessary, were it not for the extreme politicians those who, under the guise of needing a few jobs, want to clear-cut as much of the national forest as possible and those politicians who, instead of doing their job to get alternate sources of energy going, would rather rail against some who are trying to protect certain areas from oil drilling. It's hard for some to realize that ANWR oil would not solve our energy needs.
It seems that all three that we elected to represent us in D.C. fall into this category of "extreme politicians."
