Student Artist in the Spotlight: Matthew Mahnke

Posted: Friday, April 25, 2008

Age: 6.

Grade: Kindergarten.

School: Glacier Valley Elementary School.

Art of choice: Drawing.

Experience: About two years.

All in the family: His sister also loves art and has been a role model for Matthew.

Inspiration: Matthew frequently travels with his grandparents and takes his paper, pencils, crayons and markers with him. He is inspired by what he sees on these trips. Recently they traveled to the Grand Canyon, and he enjoyed drawing there.

Subject: Matthew enjoys drawing pirate ships. One of his wishes is that his drawings could be built into real ships. He also often has stories that go with his art work.

You should know: At home Matthew will sit for long periods of time and draw. He is a very happy boy who loves people, being outside and traveling with his family.
