Consider transit benefits

Posted: Monday, April 26, 2004

I am writing to express my concern with the Assembly's decision to cut back on the bus service in Juneau. I started riding the bus because of a mechanical issue with my vehicle and have continued now for five months primarily due to the convenience of the bus schedule.

Several of us who own vehicles are simply taking the bus because of the limited full-day parking access downtown and the traffic congestion in the morning and afternoon. I strongly urge the Borough Assembly to consider the fact that many bus riders represent a downtown parking space that isn't used during the weekday and one less car on the road in the busy morning and afternoon hours. I hope that in an attempt to save a few dollars now the city is not going to have a much larger problem on their hands in the future.
