JUNEAU - Young Parent and Healthy Teen Center, a program of Catholic Community Services, will host an Alaska Regional Health Fair on May 1 at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym.
Participants, including Dzantik'I Heeni students, will learn to make a nutritious trail mix, describe elements of a healthy relationship and create a fun fitness routine. Presenters from a wide variety of backgrounds will contribute to the event, including representatives from AWARE, the Cooperative Extension Service, FASD clinic, Lemon Creek Correctional Center, NCADD, Pavitt's Health & Fitness, Pep Grant, SAIL/ORCA and the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
In addition to learning about elements of physical, emotional and societal health, students will all have height and weight measurements taken and vision tests conducted by public health nurses. During the fair, students have the opportunity to win door prizes from generous donors including the Nugget Alaskan Outfitters, Hearthside Books, The Rock Dump, Blockbuster, Fitness Essentials and Foggy Mountain Shop.
The center thanks the community members who graciously donated time and merchandise to support the health and wellness of our young people.
