ANCHORAGE - About 6,000 people turned out for the Heart Run to benefit the American Heart Association.
The five-kilometer race was held Saturday in Anchorage. It was the 31st running of the race.
Cindy Patrick was among the runners. The 53-year-old woman says five years ago she was in the locker room at The Alaska Club when she felt something was wrong. She had pressure in her chest and was overwhelmed by a sense of doom. So, she drove to Alaska Regional Hospital where she was told she was having a heart attack.
Patrick recovered and worked on becoming healthier. She placed third in the women's Mended Heart division.
