ANCHORAGE - Bad weather has prompted the Department of Public Safety to extend the studded-tire removal deadline by two weeks.
The emergency order by Commissioner Walt Monegan makes April 29 the deadline for Alaska roads that are south of 60 degrees north latitude.
For communities north of that the deadline is May 15.
Public safety officials said the extension should provide all motorists an additional margin of safety on roads with lingering ice and snow.
