School District holds special board meeting

Posted: Tuesday, April 27, 2010

JUNEAU - The Juneau School board is holding a special meeting at 6:15 p.m. today to request a waiver from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development for early release for 15 calendar days in the 2010-2011 school year.

A state waiver is required when the instructional day is less than the five-hour requirement for grades 4-12. Depending on grade, the instructional day will be 15 to 30 minutes.

The time will be used to allow the district's teachers to participate in 90 minutes of professional development and staff collaboration focused on analyzing student data to strengthen instruction. The board approved the calendar change in a previous meeting.
