JUNEAU - Capital City Fire and Rescue is taking applications for an opening and for an eligibility list for its scholarship program. The Capital City Fire and Rescue scholarship program is open to Alaska residents planning to attend University of Alaska Southeast. Preference will be given to Southeast Alaska residents.
Capital City Fire and Rescue awarded 12 scholarships for the fall semester of 2009. Scholarships are renewable each semester for up to three years of study provided the student is fulfilling all the requirements of the program. This scholarship program requires participants to be live-in firefighters with Capital City Fire and Rescue. An opening in the program has occurred, and unexpected openings may occur.
Capital City Fire and Rescue is recruiting for the open position and for establishment of an eligibility list to fill any further vacancies. The eligibility list will be for the 2010 fall semester and may be renewed for the 2010 spring semester.

A panel of judges will select the winners based on each student's future potential to contribute their knowledge and talents in Alaska. In addition, each student's service to their community, service to their school and school achievements will be taken into consideration. Applicants selected from the review process will be invited to participate in interviews on June 2 and 3. Interviews may be done via teleconference.
Along with the application form, students are asked to include in their scholarship package a letter of application, an official high school or college transcript, letters of recommendation, a criminal background check, a driving record, media release form and a health screening form. It is important that all these be submitted with the application.
