JUNEAU - The Juneau police department responded to a call at 6:30 a.m. Sunday concerning a body found on Mount Roberts. The man was identified by a relative as 45-year-old John Samuel Collins.

Officers met with individuals at the base of the Alaska Electrical Light & Power access road on Thane Mountain near Miners Cove, who said they had been drinking with Collins the previous night at their campsite. They all went to sleep at the camp but Collins never woke up, witnesses told police.

Officers hiked about 50 yards through the woods and then drove on a four-wheeler over at least another half-mile to the camp site where they found Collins' body. The camp was near the old Alaska Juneau Mine ruins. Officers called Capital City Fire & Rescue for assistance.

No foul play is suspected.
