Longtime Juneau resident Harold "Hal" L. Sewill, 77, died April 18, 2003, in Juneau.
He was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Kempton, N.D. He attended school in North Dakota and after graduation in 1943 he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving until 1946. He married Dorothy Peterson in Petersburg, N.D., on May 24, 1947.
Harold and Dorothy and their daughter, Kathy, came to Juneau in December 1949. He worked in the dry cleaning and auto body repair businesses until 1962, when he started Hal's Body Shop. He owned and operated the shop until his retirement in 1985. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends on his boat, "Kaylor," bowling, woodworking and helping his sons as they continued in the family automotive business.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Steve (Carol), Jeff and Tim (Kris); daughter, Lauri (Dave) Hanna, all of Juneau; daughter, Kathy (Tim) O'Keefe of Reno, Nev.; and grandchildren, Jennifer Sewill, Sean Sewill, Jason, Lindsay and Colter Hanna of Juneau and Brennan and Liam O'Keefe of Reno.
Memorial services will be held at the Juneau Elks Lodge on Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m.
