Sitka High School's junior varsity softball team got the best of Juneau-Douglas over the weekend in Sitka.
The Wolves knocked off the Crimson Bears in three close games. JDHS opened the weekend with a rout of Homer.
On Sunday, Sitka defeated JDHS 7-6 in six innings. Juneau pitchers Krista Barril, Kalea Chapman and Jennifer Nelson combined to strike out nine batters and allow five hits.
Hailey Pusich led the Bears' offense with a single and two runs scored, while Nelson tripled and score. Kyra Uddipa, Megan Wright and Gabbie Saldivar all scored, while Nicole Young singled in defeat.
On Saturday, Sitka toppled Juneau-Douglas 8-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Chapman and Megan Mauseth combined to fan five batters and yield three base hits in the four-inning contest.
Taylor Larson tripled and scored twice, Alissa Hulbert drove in two runs and a single, Kyelisa Graham tripled, Chapman singled and scored, and Lordes Andes singled and scored twice in defeat.
Wright, playing second base, turned a double play in the game.
Later that day, Nelson pitched a one-hitter over five innings, but Sitka managed the 4-3 win.
Defensively, JDHS right fielder Sheryce Marshall threw out two Sitka players at first base.
At the plate, Pusich went 2-for-3 with a double, Kaci Hansen and Saldivar each singled and scored, and Randi Chernikoff touched home in the loss.
On Friday, Juneau-Douglas routed Homer 14-3 to open its season.
Chernikoff led Juneau's bats, going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Mauseth went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, Young drove in two runs and scored twice, while Saldivar had a double and an RBI.
Also for JDHS, Chapman singled and scored twice, while Wright, Uddipa and Mahlet Tingley all singled and scored. Andes and Hansen each scored, and Larson posted an RBI and a run scored in the win.
