ANCHORAGE - Nome police say a toddler has died after being hit by a taxicab as the vehicle pulled away from his home.
The child has been identified as 22-month-old Christopher George Johnson-Ozenna.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that the child was struck by the Nome Checker Cab van Monday and transported to the local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
According to police, the cab had just delivered the boy and his father to their home and the driver was waiting while the father unloaded belongings.
Police say the boy was hit after he wandered in front of the van and the driver pulled forward when the father shut the door.
The driver - 31-year-old David D. Evans - has not been charged in the ongoing investigation.
