Mat-Su assembly upholds prison sewer contract

Posted: Thursday, April 29, 2010

PALMER - At a special meeting Tuesday the Mat-Su Borough Assembly decided to uphold the contract for building the water and sewer system at the new Goose Creek prison.

KTUU reports assembly member Jim Colver said the contract awarded to Valley Utilities was unfair because one of the company's owners had previously worked for an engineering firm that designed the project.

But assembly member Peter Houston said the sewer contract passed the smell test because it had been reviewed by several different layers of lawyers.

Goose Creek Correctional center is scheduled to open late next year.
