Police reported three costly acts of vandalism over the weekend.
Sgt. Troy Wilson said the scenic viewpoint at Mile 6.5 of Egan Drive was reported vandalized Saturday about 1 p.m., and the viewpoint has been posted for extra patrol.
"They vandalized the railings basically by knocking them down, and damaged bird identification information," Wilson said. Damage is estimated at $3,000. There are no leads or suspects.
The second incident occurred in a yard at 9999 Glacier Highway, where damage was done to a front-end loader and a dump truck. Someone put sand in their radiators. Damage to the front-end loader alone is estimated at $5,000, Wilson said. There are no leads or suspects.
In the third incident, a boy, 15, allegedly used a front-end loader at the scene to damage a light pole near a ball field under construction at the intersection of Lena Loop Road and Glacier Highway. A car also was involved, Wilson said. Damage to the pole was estimated at $2,000 to $2,500.
"It's hard to say" if the incidents are related in any way, Wilson said.
He noted any individual act of vandalism in excess of $500 could lead to felony charges.
In the past two weeks, acts of vandalism and thefts from vehicles and residences have increased in Juneau.
Rocks have been thrown through windshields and side windows on Anka Street, Nowell Avenue and at Auke Bay harbor. Windows in a van were broken with an unknown object at 10th and D, and three Subaru windows were shattered on West 10th. A window in a vehicle was broken at 10th and D, possibly with BBs. A pickup truck on Moraine Way and a van on Fritz Cove Road were egged.
Sgt. Steve Hernandez said his vehicle was egged, "Probably because it was a police car."
A fence on Douglas Highway suffered $2,000 damage. Vehicles were scratched with keys on Gail Avenue and Willoughby. Two unlocked residences have been entered and robbed, one on Eagle Street. Tires were slashed on Fritz Cove Road. And a tree was sawed down in a yard on Gold Street.
