FORT YUKON - A toddler in Fort Yukon was attacked and killed by a dog after the boy wandered into a neighbor's back yard.
Fort Yukon police officer Chris Inderrieden said the 1½-year-old child was killed Monday afternoon. The child's name was not released.
The toddler wandered across the street and into the neighbor's back yard while the dog was eating, police said.
The toddler "got too close to the dog and the dog attacked him," Inderrieden said.
The child's father took the boy to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police returned to the home Monday evening and shot and killed the dog.
He said the dog, a husky-mix about 3 years old, had no prior history of bad behavior.
