ANCHORAGE - Dr. Franc Fallico is retiring Wednesday after serving as the state medical examiner for the past 11 years.
During his tenure, he performed 1,577 autopsies.
The state's public health director, Beverly Wooley, said Fallico has been "an incredible asset to the state and will be missed both professionally and personally."
He was hired in 1997 as a deputy medical examiner. In January 2001 he became the acting chief, a role that became permanent in June 2004. He's been on extended leave since October.
The state will search for a successor.
