It's plastic-only at Bethel PO after safe damaged

Posted: Friday, April 30, 2010

BETHEL - Postal officials in Bethel have been forced to conduct plastic transactions only and temporarily suspend drop box service after their safe was damaged.

U.S. Postal Service authorities say the keys to the drop boxes are locked in the safe, which was damaged in the attempted break-in last weekend.

Bethel radio station KYUK reports without a safe, the post office also is not accepting cash; only debit or credit cards can be used for payments.

In the meantime, postal service workers are trying to gain access to the safe to get to the keys.

Federal officials are investigating the break-in and are offering a reward for information about it.
