In my My Turn column, "A veteran's perspective on the war," which appeared in Wednesday's Empire, I wrote about having been drafted into the Army 55 years ago. I miscounted the years, the kind of thing I'm inclined to do these days.
I graduated, in fact, from high school in May of 1943 in Alexandria, Va. I was drafted into the Army the following month. These events occurred almost 60 years ago, not 55. I apologize to those who may have been confused by my erroneous recounting of the years.
