Juneau man indicted on child pornography charges

A Juneau man was indicted last week on charges of transportation, distribution, attempted receipt and possession of child pornography.

Johnny Bell Jr., 44, was arraigned Friday before Magistrate Judge Philip Pallenberg. He was accused of crimes that took place between June 2004 and October 2005.

Authorities said Bell transported child pornography on a computer on June 12, 2004, distributed it on Sept. 13, 2005, and tried to receive it between Sept. 13 and Oct. 17, 2005. He also was accused of possessing child pornography on compact discs in Sitka.

Bell was detained after his arraignment. A conviction on the charges could lead to a sentence of five to 20 years in prison for transportation, distribution and attempted receipt, 10 years for possession, and fines of up to $250,000 on each count, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
