Police release identity of dead Kodiak man

KODIAK - Police in Kodiak released the identity of the man killed in what is believed to have been a hit-and-run this week.

Justin McGriff, 43, worked as a dishwasher at El Chicano restaurant.

McGriff apparently lived in a tent on Pillar Mountain, officials said. His body was found early Tuesday morning along side Pillar Mountain Road.

Police Chief T.C. Kamai said McGriff died of what appeared to be massive injuries, probably inflicted by someone driving a car or a truck.

His body has been sent to the state medical examiner in Anchorage for an autopsy.
