With generous donations from Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority and International Brotherhood of the Electrical Workers #1574, the Boys and Girls Club of Juneau purchased a 15-passenger van early this year in order to offer members safe and reliable transportation to the club after school. Since the Juneau Boys and Girls Club opened in June of last year, many members have expressed how difficult it is for them to reach the club in the afternoon. With the new van, the Boys and Girls Club hopes to increase the opportunity for Juneau youth to take part in the daily programming offered at the club. In addition, the new BGC van will allow staff to expand programming opportunities to include field trips and summer day camps with partner organizations away from the Mallard Street facility.
The transportation provided will be from designated stops to the Boys & Girls Club only. Designated stops include Juneau/Douglas High School, Floyd Dryden Middle School, Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, Auke Bay Elementary, Glacier Valley Elementary, Harborview Elementary, Mendenhall Elementary, Riverbend Elementary, and Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Threadneedle subdivision. Call 790-4535 for more information.
