Former Juneau resident William John Bell Jr., 59, died April 5, 2003, in Sitka.
He was born May 25, 1943, in Marysville, Wash., and grew up in Chico, Calif. He joined a brother in Juneau in 1962 and went into commercial fishing. After he learned refrigeration engineering, he worked at several cold storage facilities around Southeast. He also had his own commercial refrigeration business in Sitka.
His family said he enjoyed fishing, rebuilding guns and working on old Chevrolets.
His family said, "He will be missed by all who knew him. He was always willing to share anything he had - be it his wealth of knowledge or friendship."
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Porter.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (Dawn) Bell of Sitka and Jim (Nicole) Rao of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Elaine Bell of Juneau; grandchildren, Liam and Scout Porter-Bell of Juneau, and Emily and James Rao of San Diego; brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Bell of Douglas, Jim (Vicky) Porter of Sitka, Terry Bell of Washington state and Mike Porter of California; sisters, Bridgett Bell of Washington state and Nancy and Becky Porter of California; and his stepfather, Arthur J. Porter of Chico.
A wake was held April 12 at the Elks Lodge in Sitka.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Bell family at P.O. Box 913, Sitka.
