Put the second high school to a vote, again

Letter to the editor

Just as Bush told us that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, our city leaders told us that "X" amount of dollars was needed to build a new high school. The city knew a long time ago that the money wasn't enough. But, in the self-serving interest of foolishly spending the money on what turns out to be a shell of the original plan, our leaders had us vote on this until they got the result they wanted. I have a better idea!

Sound off on the important issues at

Use the Floyd Dryden Middle School building as the new high school. It has all the sports fields that we need and the building could be rebuilt or remodeled to suit a new high school. Use the Juneau-Douglas High School building and Marie Drake schools for grades one through eight. Sell the lot that the new high school was to be built on to the highest bidder. Juneau does not, and will not in the near future, need two high schools. Please quit foolishly spending the taxpayer's money on projects that are too expensive and under funded.

Now that the ugly truth is out, the cost overruns are known, let's put the new high school up to a vote - again.
