ANCHORAGE - Court documents show the former leader of an Alaska nurses union has agreed to plead guilty in a federal embezzlement case.
According to the court papers filed this week, Thomas Renkes agreed to plead guilty to a federal charge of embezzling more than $22,000 from the Alaska Nurses Association to pay personal bills.
The union represents nearly 1,000 nurses at Alaska hospitals.
Renkes was executive director of the union from October 2007 to August 2008.
He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine at his June 3 plea hearing.
