I just read that Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch wants to rush through $10 million to speed-up construction of the Juneau "mine" road (obviously this project is no longer about access. It's about subsidizing the hard rock mining industry, one of the earth's largest polluters). I can think of 100 different ways to better invest that money: improvements to the region's ferry system, safer sidewalks for our kids, and creating more parking for our downtown businesses (I own one) are just a few.
One road improvement project that is on the top of the city's wish list is the Stephen Richards/Riverside Drive area. I strongly support making this area safer. Two years ago my car was totaled and my neck permanently cricked after I was rear-ended on Riverside Drive. Mr. Weyhrauch, and the rest of the Legislature need to listen to what their constituents want, and it's not a road to a mine.
