Wesley David `Wally' Wallace

Wesley David ``Wally'' Wallace died April 23, 2000, in his home on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, after a three-month battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 26, 1936, in Seattle and lived in Juneau and Fairbanks from 1971 to 1986.

An entrepreneur, Wallace started Switzer Creek Mobile Homes in Juneau and Columbia Mobile Homes in Fairbanks. He was a partner in the development of a large mobile home park in North Pole during the construction of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. He also served on the Alaska Alcohol Control Board during the Sheffield administration. In 1986, he left Alaska to start a restaurant in his historic home on Kauai, Hawaii. At the time of his death, Wallace and his wife Roberta owned and operated Gaylord's Restaurant on Kauai.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Richard Wallace and a son, Steve Nugent, all of Seattle.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Roberta Tegen Wallace, daughters Paige (and husband Russ Talvi) and their three children of Kauai, Kim (and husband Mike Whittle) and their two children of Seattle; sons Richard Wesley Wallace (and wife Kathy) of Fairbanks and Michael Shawn Wallace of Kauai; brother William Bruce Wallace (and wife Cheryl) and their son of Edmonds, Wash.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., May 6, at PuaKee Golf Course in Lihue, Kauai. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Kauai Hospice, P.O. Box 3286, Lihue, Hawaii, 96766.

Edward Raymond Gustafson

Juneau resident Edward Raymond Gustafson died April 29, 2000, at St. Ann's Care Center.

He was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Frankfort, Mich., and moved to Juneau in 1962. He worked as an engineer at the Alaska Power Administration until his retirement 10 years later.

He is survived by his daughter Clare (and husband Bill) St. Sure and granddaughter Kim St. Sure, all of Juneau; sisters Enid Slama and June Cokusis of Indiana; sister-in-laws Dorothy Gustafson of Indiana and Kathleen Gustafson of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a private memorial service for family members.

Linda E. Karlson

Longtime Juneau resident Linda E. Karlson died April 29, 2000, after a long illness.

She was born April 27, 1934, in Kake to Joseph K. and Annie K. Peterson (Esmino). Her Tlingit name was Yana A Keen, her moiety was Raven/Beaver, End of the Trail House of the Dei Shu Hit of Angoon. She was a child of the Dei Shee Taan clan.

She spent her childhood in Angoon and went to school in both Angoon and at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka before settling in Juneau. She worked in canneries in Hood Bay and Juneau and also worked as a bookkeeper.

She was an active member of the Pentecostal Church and loved to read the Bible and listen to Christian music. She was also an avid collector of Elvis Presley memorabilia and was a fan of his music. She adopted many people into her family and enjoyed helping people.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Raymond Abajar Esmino; husband Erick Karlson Sr.; children Erick Karlson Jr., Darryl Karlson, Sabrina Karlson; brother Waverly Peterson; sister Johanna Cropley and adopted sister Mae Osborne.

She is survived by her children Bruce Karlson, Reubena (and husband Mike) Karlson-Schwab, A. Richard (and wife Cheryl) Moore, Perry (and wife Kerin) Moore; sisters Dorothy (and husband Tom) Gregory, Katherine White, Juanita (Boyd) Satterwhite; aunts Elsie John and Alice Bennett all of Juneau; aunts Mary B. Johnson of Angoon and Martha Jackson of Kake, uncles Ronald John Sr., Joe Bennett Sr., and Peter John Sr., all of Juneau; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
